CORNERSTONE YOUTH NEWS!

BIG DAY OUT TO BUDGEWOI!

Hi everyone

What a great time we all had at Budgewoi last weekend! Thank you to all of you who came and made it such a great time away.  We ended up going to the Munamorah national park for a hike down to a secluded beach, where we discovered some sea caves and other goodies for us to explore. A good time was had by all but special mention must be given to Charles and Zion for their climbing skills. They obviously must have watched the movie Cliffhanger just before they came, such was the way they attacked one of the rock faces.  The time at Frazier beach was also pretty awesome and the question on everyone´s lips was, “When are we going to do this again?”  The answer to that is, we´ll try and organize something similar once every two months. So watch this space for the next outing and come along. YOU WILL HAVE FUN!!! We´ll get some pictures from the trip on this page as soon as we can.

BACK FROM THE DEAD! Last Sunday as part of the “THRIVE” series, we looked at the subject, “Back from the dead.”

Ephesians 2:1-2 says, “In the past you were spiritually dead because of your disobedience and sins. At that time you followed the world's evil way; you obeyed the ruler of the spiritual powers in space, the spirit who now controls the people who disobey God.” (GNB)

In studying these verses, we discovered that all people are to a certain extent controlled by what their bodily and mental appetites tell them to do.  For example, some have a real problem with bearing grudges and it is almost compulsory for them to resent someone or something because their mind tells them to do this. In other words, they obey “The ruler of the spiritual powers in space, the spirit who now controls the people who disobey God.”  In doing this, these people are classed as spiritually dead.

V3 says, “Actually all of us were like them and lived according to our natural desires, doing whatever suited the wishes of our own bodies and minds. In our natural condition we, like everyone else, were destined to suffer God's anger.” (GNB) From that verse we learned that people who live according to the whims of their bodies and minds are actually storing up for themselves wrath from God, which believe you me, isn´t a nice thing to experience.

There is a way to come back from the dead!

There is a way to avoid Gods anger and come back from the dead! That way is found in verses 4 and 5. It says,  “But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us  (even when we were dead in sins) has made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved),”  God saves us by His grace. Being saved doesn´t simply mean a free ticket to heaven. It actually means we are …

  • Being made whole,
  • Experiencing Gods mercy
  • Getting a new start in life
  • Being set on a good path!

I don´t know about you, but these are pretty good things to grab a hold of.  We are given Gods salvation through something called grace.  For those of you who want to learn more about Gods grace and what it actually is, we will be looking at a film this Sunday night called Les Misérables.  Come along this Sunday and find out what grace is all about.
