CORNERSTONE YOUTH NEWS!!!

Hi Everyone!

Another mother of all quizzes! We had a great night last Sunday, first of all, taking part in the “Another mother of all quizzes.” Full marks to Charles and his team of Awesome´s for winning but top marks also go to David and his team of incredible´s who pushed the Awesome´s all the way.

Thanks! Thanks also to all who made suggestions for the name of the youth event we´re hosting on the 25th of September.  The flyer will be ready by the end of this week and we´ll give you all copies, so you can have something to give to your friends.

DON´T FORGET!

Combined Youth Service! On Saturday the 25th of September, we´ll be having a combined youth service with the Parramatta AOG youth group here at Cornerstone.

Special guest speaker will be former Sharks and Dragons 1st grader, Paul Stevens.

Facebook: Don´t forget to check out the facebook page, where all of our lessons are summarized and put onto the discussion board. So if you are looking for an answer to a question that is nagging you, you might find the answer under one of the topics listed.

Good Website: I found a good website the other day for people with unanswered questions. Go to http://www.christiananswers.net. Highly recommended!

Thought for this week!

Last Sunday we continued with our topic, “Why should I bother reading the Bible?”

We looked at the fact that the Bible isn´t just Gods word to us and for us, it is also a book about us.

We then went on to discover that a lot of the Bible was written by prophets. These were people God used to give a message to people, that was relevant for where they were at, at that particular time.

We then went onto to discover that just as Gods word was relevant for the people it was written to, those same words are relevant for us today.

For example we know that depression is a real issue among many young people today. What we don´t know is that the Bible has some really good advice for how to cope with this modern day disease.

It gives the following advice.

1:  Rejoice, even if you don´t feel like it.

Christians base life on truth, not feelings. Philippians 4:1 commands us to rejoice (whether we feel like it or not!).

Php 4:1 “So then, my friends, how dear you are to me and how I miss you! How happy you make me, and how proud I am of you! ---this, dear friends, is how you should stand firm in your life in the Lord.”

2: Avoid being alone. Force yourself to be with people.

Heb 10:25  not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

3: Praise and give thanks. In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

4: Sing or listen to appropriate music. Music can uplift your spirit as it did for King Saul

See 1 Samuel 16:14-23.

As we study more and more Gods word, we will discover it has the answer for a lot of issues that surround us every day.

Until next time…KEEP ON THRIVING!!!
